Hotels in Fayetteville, Oak Hill and Beckley

A boutique hotel in a 1923 school, a historic inn, highway standbys and a dozen chains at Beckley's Exit 44.

The big hotel news in Fayetteville is Hill Hall, 40 rooms in the town's 1923 stone high school, which opened August 28, 2026 at $225 a night and up, a short walk from Court Street's restaurants. Town also has a Quality Inn on US 19 at around $100, the five-room Morris Harvey House inn and four apartment suites at Lafayette Flats. Oak Hill, the next town south, adds two hotels, and Beckley, about 20 road miles south, has the chain cluster where Choice Hotels rooms ran $85 to $135 a night in 2026.

Staying in downtown Fayetteville

Sleeping in town means you can park once and walk to dinner, and Hill Hall has made that a lot more appealing. The hotel fills the 1923 stone high school and the mid-century middle school next door, and it belongs to Design Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy, Hotel News Resource reports. Rooms range from standard queens of about 240 square feet to a double king suite of about 660. Parking is free, dogs pay $50 a night each, check-in is 4 p.m. and checkout 11 a.m. Breakfast isn't included, just grab-and-go items from an honor pantry, according to the hotel's FAQ, but Court Street and its cafes are a short walk away. Its restaurant, Patsy's, serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. and weekend brunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Quality Inn is the dependable older choice on the highway. Guests like its location, staff, breakfast and price and grumble about dated carpets and bathrooms, giving it 8.3 out of 10 from 561 reviews on Kayak and 3.8 out of 5 from 374 on TripAdvisor. For character, the Morris Harvey House is an intimate historic inn within walking distance of everything; expect stairs, sound that carries between rooms, a shared bath in the two cheapest rooms, and no pets. Lafayette Flats rents four adult-oriented suites in a restored bank building right on Court Street.

Hotels in Oak Hill

Oak Hill is where locals do their grocery runs and big-store shopping, which makes it a handy base if you're stocking up for a cabin or a camp. Comfort Inn New River has breakfast, a seasonal pool and accessible rooms; guests praise the clean rooms and staff and knock the mattresses, noise and housekeeping (8.3 on Trip.com, 3.4 of 5 on TripAdvisor). Holiday Lodge has about 120 rooms and a conference center, last lists a renovation in 1999, and draws mixed reviews. It used to be where Bridge Day's BASE jumpers checked in; that moved to River Expeditions this year.

Staying in Beckley: when it works

Beckley has the region's biggest spread of chain hotels, clustered around Harper Road at I-64/I-77 Exit 44. Rolling in off the interstate late, or spending your days at Grandview and Sandstone at the south end of the park? It's the practical pick, and it's where Bridge Day overflow lands. It's the wrong base for the Lansing trailheads, the north-rim resorts or early Gauley put-ins at Summersville Dam, since each of those adds the drive back through Fayetteville. Road routes are in getting here.

Among the Beckley chains, guests usually rate the Hampton Inn well for location and comfort, with gripes about dated flooring and a same-every-day breakfast. The Courtyard scores 8.4 of 10 from 887 reviews on Hotels.com, though breakfast isn't included and pets aren't allowed. Country Inn & Suites splits opinion: a 7.0 on Kayak from 3,344 reviews, with recent reports of odors, stained carpets and dirty pools alongside praise for the staff. The Fairfield Inn, which WOAY covered as new in 2025, is the newest in the cluster, and the Best Western Plus had a $1.2 million renovation before its 2022 rebranding.

Hotels for Bridge Day weekend

Bridge Day is Saturday, October 17, 2026. US 19 over the bridge closes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and shuttles ($5 cash) run from lots on both sides; the south lots include Fayette Landing in Oak Hill, the Fayetteville Walmart and Oak Hill High School, so a room in Oak Hill or Fayetteville pairs neatly with the south shuttles. The town's visitor bureau warns that hotels fill quickly, so book now if you haven't. Here's a clever workaround: The Resort at Glade Springs, south of Beckley, sells a Bridge Day package for October 16 to 18 from $140 per person per night plus tax and resort fee, with breakfast and a shuttle to the event gate. That shuttle takes parking off your plate, which is why Beckley works on this one weekend.

For Bridge Day, search the Friday and Saturday nights together; a one-night result for another weekend tells you little about October 16 to 18.

Fayetteville, Oak Hill or Beckley: the short answer

If the trip is about the gorge and dinner downtown, spend the extra for Fayetteville; every hour you don't spend on US 19 is an hour on a trail or the river. Pick Beckley when price or a late interstate arrival matters more, or on Bridge Day if you've got a shuttle sorted. Four or more of you? A cabin usually beats two hotel rooms (see the cabins guide). The full comparison of bases is on where to stay. New openings and closures land on what's new.
