Where to eat in Fayetteville

About three dozen places to refuel in town and on the rim, from 6 AM biscuits to 2 AM last rounds, with current hours.

Fayetteville eats like a town full of people who just spent the day on a river or a cliff: big breakfasts, serious pizza and a cold craft beer to finish. Most of the independent restaurants sit within a few blocks of the Fayette County courthouse, on Court Street, Maple Avenue and Keller Avenue. Start with the two headliners, Pies and Pints (home of the grape and gorgonzola pizza) and Secret Sandwich Society. For breakfast there's Cathedral Cafe under the stained glass of an old church, scratch cooking at Wood Iron Eatery, and Tudor's Biscuit World from 6 AM. The newest table in town is Patsy's, in the Hill Hall Hotel, open since August 28, 2026. Every listing below was checked in September 2026.

Two tips will save you a hungry evening. Plenty of places close one weekday, and it isn't always Monday: Cathedral Cafe and Southside Junction are closed Wednesdays, and The Take Out and Patsy's take Monday and Tuesday off. Kitchens also close early, around 2:30 or 3 PM for the breakfast cafes and 8 or 9 PM for most dinner spots, so if you'll be off the river late, have a plan.

What's new on the Fayetteville food scene

  • August 28, 2026: the Hill Hall Hotel opened in the old school buildings on High Street, with Patsy's in the lobby. The executive chef is Jeffrey Toth, who founded Wood Iron Eatery in 2018.
  • September 2026: Kobe Asian Fusion plans a second restaurant in Beaver, Raleigh County, aiming for late fall, Lootpress reported. The Fayetteville location stays put.
  • April 2026: Namaste Blends and Bites opened at 115 East Maple Avenue, serving momo, curry, chai and fresh-pressed juice, WOAY reported.
  • March 2026: a Huey Magoo's chicken-tender restaurant and a Hampton Inn are planned for the lots beside Lowe's, per Lootpress, with no opening date yet.
  • January 2026: a West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Museum was announced for Studio B on South Court Street, planned for March; no opening has been reported yet.
  • End of October 2025: Wanderlust Creativefoods on Maple Avenue closed, its owner announced.
  • 2025: Tequila Taco Bar opened at 312 North Court Street, where Don Rizo Mexican Kitchen used to be.
  • The Freefolk Brewery closed its Court Street taproom and now pours at its brewhouse in Hico; La Bolilla serves pupusas at 1690 Court Street now.

Fayetteville restaurants and bars up close

The places people ask about most, in more detail: what's on the menu, what it costs, when to go and where to park.

Coming soon: Bridge Brew Works, Patsy's at Hill Hall, Breakfast and coffee, Eating at the resorts, Where to eat with kids.

Where to eat early, late and in the off-season

Early rafting check-in? Tudor's opens at 6 AM Monday through Saturday and 7 AM on Sunday, Range Finder pours coffee from 7 AM every day, and Smokey's at Adventures on the Gorge lays out a 6 AM breakfast buffet Friday through Monday. Cathedral Cafe and Wood Iron don't open until 8 or 8:30 AM, so save them for a slower morning.

Late night is thinner: most kitchens close by 9 or 10 PM. Charlie's Pub stays open until 2 AM on Friday and Saturday, Chetty's Pub until midnight on weekends, Taco Bell until 2 AM, and Sheetz on Whitewater Avenue never closes.

In the off-season, hours shrink. Secret Sandwich Society closes an hour earlier in winter, Bridge Brew Works' taproom shuts for January and February, Rosa's drops to Friday and Saturday from November, and The Lost Paddle at ACE goes to Friday and Saturday dinners after "early October." Between November and March, call before you drive in.

How to find downtown from U.S. 19, and where to park

Here's the catch: the four-lane U.S. 19 skips the historic downtown, and the town's own 2024 action plan admits travelers can cross the bridge, stop at Canyon Rim and drive on without ever realizing Court Street's restaurants are right there. Don't be that traveler. Take the exit for downtown and head for the courthouse. Pies and Pints has its own lot; most places around the courthouse rely on street parking, and Secret Sandwich Society asks you not to use its neighbors' lots. The town posts a downtown parking map.

Food events this fall

Fayetteville's First Friday on October 2, 2026 is the last one of the year: an evening art walk with vendors set up beside downtown businesses, and Court Street stays open to traffic. The Fayette County Farmers Market sets up Saturdays from 8 AM to 12:30 PM in the courthouse lot on West Wiseman Avenue. Bridge Day weekend is the big one for eating. Taste of Bridge Day runs Friday, October 16, from 5 to 9 PM at Adventures on the Gorge, free to enter with samples at $4 to $12, and the chili cook-off takes over downtown from 3 to 6 PM on Saturday, October 17. Expect lines everywhere that weekend. The events calendar has the rest.

Closed places you might still find online

Listings outlive restaurants, so here's a quick decoder. Wanderlust Creativefoods closed at the end of October 2025. Don Rizo at 312 North Court is now Tequila Taco Bar, and the old Freefolk taproom at 1690 Court Street is La Bolilla. Wood Iron Eatery closed in April 2023 and has since reopened, so ignore old "closed" notices. "The Vandalian," once at 101 South Court Street, is long gone; that corner is Southside Junction. Wylde Berry Bakery's old address, 115 East Maple, is now Namaste Blends and Bites.

Stay within walking distance of dinner

Downtown Fayetteville is small enough to walk end to end, so a room within a few blocks of Court Street turns dinner and a pint into a whole evening with no drive at the end. The resorts in Lansing and Minden work the same way for their own bars. Compare places to stay on the map beside this page, or read where to stay around the gorge to see how the towns stack up.
