Hot tubs on the deck, a fire going and the gorge a few minutes away: the cabin companies north of the bridge and what they charge.
A cabin is the classic way to do the New River Gorge: coffee on the porch in the fog, a day on the river or the rim, then the hot tub under the trees while someone works the grill. Most cabins sit on quiet back roads in Lansing, Hico and Victor, just north of the bridge, and small local companies run them rather than a resort. For a benchmark, New River Gorge Cabins charges $180 to $190 a night for a three-bedroom cabin that sleeps eight, and $215 a night through Gauley season and the run-up to Bridge Day, with a two-night minimum (2026 rates).

Why a local cabin company is worth a look
Group math is where cabins shine. New River Gorge Cabins quotes for two guests and adds $30 per extra guest per night, so eight friends in the Country Roads cabin on an ordinary weeknight pay $180 plus $180 in extra-guest charges, before the $55 cleaning fee and the 6% county occupancy tax. Split eight ways, that's still well under a hotel room each. One tip from the company's travel page: GPS likes to misroute guests on Milroy Grose Road, so enter 1153 Milroy Grose Road exactly, and do it before you lose signal after dark. Renters must be 21 or older.
Guests love Country Road Cabins in Hico, which scores 4.8 out of 5 from 232 reviewers on TripAdvisor, with privacy, hot tubs and spotless cabins coming up again and again. Opossum Creek Retreat in Victor rates 4.7, and reviewers rave about the quiet wooded setting, with only small slips like a burned-out bulb.
Traveling light on cash? The tiny houses from New River Cabins and Tiny Houses run $129 to $139 a night through October 16 for up to four people. West Virginia Adventures lists Base Camp cabins at $75, but those are bunk huts with no power or water, and its $125 cleaning fee applies to every rental, so for one night the fee costs more than the bed. Neither is a hot-tub cabin, and the tiny houses don't take pets.
Airbnb and Vrbo rentals around Fayetteville
You'll have plenty to scroll through. The town's 2024 comprehensive plan counts "approximately 100 short term rentals in town limits," and the platforms cast a wider net: in September 2026 Airbnb showed about 170 rentals for a Fayetteville search and Vrbo about 298, roughly 119 of them pet-friendly.
Airbnb's search page showed average asking prices of $142 to $178 a night before taxes and fees, with cabins from about $130. What people actually pay runs higher: AirROI reports a median booked rate of $199 and a mean of $256 for August 2025 to July 2026, with the top tenth above $452, because the busy weekends are when most bookings happen. Guests book about 55 days ahead on average and occupancy runs around 37% across the year, which is why a midweek night in March is easy to find and an October Saturday is not.
Booking a place inside town? Short-term rentals there fall under the town's Article 1315, and the Fayette County Health Department requires an annual health permit for every one, so it's fair to ask a host whether they hold both. Picking a licensed rental or one of the cabin companies out in the county also goes easier on a small town where, local reporting notes, rentals have been pricing some residents out.
Resort cabins and state-park cabins
Both rafting resorts rent cabins by the night, from shared-bath rustic units to four-bedroom houses with hot tubs, and they're the easy call when your trip revolves around their river trips and ziplines; see Adventures on the Gorge and ACE Adventure Resort. Babcock State Park, about 20 miles from the bridge, has 28 cabins near its famous grist mill. Call the park for rates, and note that some of the older cabins along Glade Creek take as many as 65 steps to reach; ask for one of the two accessible deluxe cabins if stairs are a problem.
Booking a cabin for a fall weekend
Minimum stays are what trip up fall plans. Mill Creek requires two nights from May 20 to October 20, and New River Gorge Cabins requires two nights year-round and can ask for two to five at peak. Rental sites often reveal their minimums only once you enter dates, so a one-night result for some other weekend tells you nothing about October 16 to 18. For Bridge Day, on October 17, 2026, the visitor bureau warns that hotels, rentals and campgrounds fill quickly. Book as early as you can.
With a dog, the list gets shorter: two of New River Gorge Cabins' four cabins, selected Opossum Creek and Country Road cabins (Country Road is on the county bureau's pet-friendly list, though Expedia says no pets, so ask), the New River Cabins cabins for dogs up to 50 pounds, and the pet-friendly Babcock cabins by number. The dogs guide has the park rules.
Enter both nights of your fall weekend to see the real minimum and the full total before you commit.
Six to eight of you? A three-bedroom cabin from a company with a published rate card is the best plain value around the gorge, and the Lansing cabins put you closest to Canyon Rim. A couple after a hot tub and some quiet should look in Hico and Victor. A couple on a budget, the tiny houses. And if strolling to dinner matters more than a porch, skip the cabin and stay downtown (see where to stay).
